The students spent the semester working on a variety of diverse topics delving into different intercultural communication concepts and issues.

The assignment involved writing a paper and creating an electronic version of that paper. Each project constitutes a "chapter" in our electronic Intercultural Communication "textbook." I hope you will take some time to read and reflect on the students' work.

Enjoy! Dr. Armeda Reitzel (aka "DOC") Humboldt State University * December 3, 2012

Course Description:

The intercultural communication course is designed to assist students in developing their knowledge and skills in communicating with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles and practices of intercultural communication. Issues of culture, co-cultures, perception, values, beliefs, worldview, verbal communication, nonverbal communication, culture shock, cultural adaptation, dialects, multilingualism, ethnocentrism, stereotyping, prejudice, and intercultural communication competence are discussed. Students explore and evaluate their own cultural heritages in relation to the cultures/co-cultures of others in the United States and globally. Students assess and develop their skills in intercultural communication during class sessions and through experiential activities outside of class. The emphasis in this class is on doing intercultural communication, not just reading about intercultural communication. Thoughtful reflection and articulation of insights and ideas are critical components of this course.
